Gum Grafting
Connective Tissue Grafting – This procedure is done to either cover exposed root surfaces or to build up a ridge where a tooth is missing so that we can make it appear as if it is emerging from the gums, or thicken the tissue around an implant. This procedure requires taking Gum from the palate and grafting it under the gum in another area of the mouth. This procedure is very predictable and is done based on the situation. Dr. Morr can help you decide what is the right option for you!!
Alloderm® Tissue Matrix
AlloDerm® Regenerative Tissue Matrix is a human dermal matrix that provides the scaffold that enables your body’s own tissue grow and remodel. AlloDermallows your dental surgeon to graft tissue where needed, without the limitations and morbidity associated with harvesting the graft material from an intraoral donor site.
How safe is Alloderm?
Alloderm grafting material has been FDA approved since 1992 and is available for use in the United States. Because It is derived from donated human skin, it is put through a very thorough screening process and sterilization process to to ensure there is no risk of rejection or potential for disease transmission.
Outside its use in dental applications, AlloDerm has been used extensively treating severe burns and in reconstructive plastic surgery. After 450,000+ procedures, there has never been a reported case of a viral disease transmitted from AlloDerm tissue.
What can I expect after surgery?
Healing time vary depending on the patient and the procedure. Like any surgery, you may have some swelling and mild bruising at the surgical site.
You should experience significant healing within the first week, as your body’s natural healing processes encourage your cells to incorporate the graft. The graft needs to stay as secure as possible throughout the healing process, so exercise caution when brushing and eating after surgery. Maintaining your oral health is important to ensure a successful graft. Complete healing may take 4 to 6 months depending on the type and scope of surgery.
