Excessive Gum Display
Crown Lengthening
– Crown lengthening is a procedure done to either expose more sound tooth structure when a tooth is broken down (create a foundation) or to level soft tissues for aesthetic purposes (symmetry of the gums). It is a fairly simple procedure if done for esthetic purposes and generally causes little to no pain after surgery. It does take at least 3 months to heal but can improve the smile dramatically.
Botox
Gummy smiles can have many causes. When the gummy smile is a result of overactivity of the Levator Labii Superioris muscle, botox can decrease the muscle pull, hence decrease the gummy smile.
Orthognathic surgery
When a gummy smile is due to overgrowth of the maxillary (upper) arch. Repositioning the upper jaw upward (more apically) will affect the relationship of the teeth to the upper lips, hence decrease the amount of tooth exposure. Orthodontic therapy is used first to align each arch individually followed by movement of the jaws to idalize the esthetics and function. Dr. Morr works with the best orthodontists and Oral Surgeons in the area to ensure a great result.
